Henry Ford Hospital Professional Nurse Advancement Program

The Professional Nurse Advancement Program (PNAP) is the clinical ladder for Registered Nurses at Henry Ford Health System (HFHS). It is a voluntary program that recognizes and rewards the professional development for the RN developing skills and contributing to improved patient care outcomes.

The purpose of the Professional Nurse Advancement Program (PNAP)/Clinical Ladder is to:

  • Attract, engage and retain highly qualified Registered Nurses
  • Recognize the contributions and achievements of the Registered Nurse
  • Encourage and develop a culture of life-long learning and professional growth
  • Foster inter-professional collaboration and teamwork

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Work at HFHS for at least 12 months as a Diploma/ADN, BSN, or MSN or DNP/PhD in Nursing
  • Registered nurses who consult with or provide direct patient care to include the following, Clinical Coordinators, (i.e. Stroke Coordinator, Joint Coordinator, Sepsis Coordinator), Clinical Unit Leaders, Clinical Nurse Leaders, Clinical Nurse Specialist, Nurse Educators, and Nurse Education Specialists (Macomb/Wyandotte only), Nurse Practice Specialists full-time or part-time, with a minimum 0.5 FTE (20hrs/week). Contingent and agency staff are not eligible
  • No disciplinary action above a Documented Counseling at time of application
  • At the time of application and PNAP Award approval the application is void should the RN receive a Second Written Warning with Suspension 
  • Must minimally “Meet Expectations” within annual performance evaluation
  • All required activities for each level must be completed within the application year as set by the operating unit

When is the deadline to submit an eligibility form and request a nurse manager recommendation?

  • August 31, 2024
  • Recommendations received after that date will not be accepted. 
  • Keep the confirmation email from your manager as proof of successful application and confirmation to participate.

When is the portfolio submission due?

  • July 31, 2025
  • All portfolios must be submitted by 11:59 pm. Failure to submit on time will result in automatic removal from the program.

What period of time is covered?

  • The "PNAP Year" is September 1 through July 31. All eligible activities for portfolio submission must be within that range.

Acceptable Volunteer Activities

  • Community Organization Volunteer Activities must demonstrate community benefit with impact on health and wellness.
  • Eligible activities include, but are not limited to: manning a table at a walk, hours at Gleaners (or other food pantry), coaching a youth sport, leading a boys/girls group, organizing events/programs for a church, community organization, or other 501c3. 
  • NON-ELIGIBLE activities include, but are not limited to: walking in fundraisers, monetary donations, HFH food drives, unit audits.

Research/EBP/Quality Projects

  • The Research-EBP Form must be completed including documentation of impact on patient outcomes as a result of the project.
